A Lord of the Rings rec, because that's all I've been reading for months. It's set a couple of thousand years before the trilogy (books or movies, whichever you're familiar with), so there is no exceptionally sexy King of Men. There is however Elrond, Galadriel, and Celeborn (who's actually doing stuff and isn't just arm candy for Galadriel). Main character is a very young Legolas. There is lots of angst. Some dry humor, but mostly angst. Story is not finished. It sometimes takes the author a year to update, but well worth the wait.
